History of Shree Jaya Bhadrakali Basic School
Although educational awareness began to spread throughout Nepal after the political change of 2007 B.S., the level of awareness regarding formal education in the Taulung area, located near the capital city, remained relatively low. Most residents followed a traditional lifestyle and were not sufficiently aware of the importance of school education. Recognizing this situation, a group of local leaders and education enthusiasts took the initiative to establish a school in 2034 B.S. As a result, Shree Jaya Bhadrakali Primary School was established.
The early years of the school were extremely challenging. Since the school had neither its own building nor permanent land, classes were conducted in open fields, the courtyards of local residents, and sometimes even near a water mill. Despite the lack of resources and infrastructure, the school continued its operation through the support and dedication of local community members who strongly believed in the value of education.
A major milestone was achieved when Late Sanuman Bahadur Lama generously provided eight annas of land under his tenancy rights for the school. A small temporary structure was then built on this land, providing the school with its first permanent location.
Many individuals played significant roles in the development and growth of the school. Notable contributors include Late Sanuman Bahadur Lama, Sunmaya Lama, Tulsi Shrestha, Dut Bahadur Bhandari, Sant Bahadur Lama, Khadka Bahadur Lama, and the then Principal Ramanath Pokharel. Their dedication and commitment were instrumental in improving school management, enhancing educational quality, constructing school buildings, and developing physical infrastructure during difficult times.
After 2054 B.S., the school experienced rapid development. The land that had initially been provided through verbal agreement was officially registered in the name of the school, ensuring legal ownership and long-term security. Following this achievement, the school undertook various infrastructure development projects, including the construction of new buildings, expansion of classrooms, and improvement of educational facilities. With the support of local representatives, the School Management Committee, teachers, and various social organizations, the school has grown into a well-equipped institution with 14 classrooms.
The surrounding community is predominantly inhabited by members of the Tamang community, along with people from other ethnic groups. Most of the students studying at the school belong to indigenous communities. However, due to increasing urbanization, changing social attitudes, and the growing preference for private schools, the number of local students attending community schools has gradually declined.
The people of the area are primarily engaged in agriculture, foreign employment, and various other occupations. Although educational awareness has improved significantly over the years, active parental involvement in children’s learning at home remains limited. Despite the area’s gradual transformation toward urbanization, local residents continue to preserve their traditional culture, religious beliefs, and festivals. Celebrations such as Dashain, Tihar, Lhosar, Buddha Jayanti, and Chandi Purnima are observed with great enthusiasm and cultural significance.
From its humble beginnings under extremely difficult circumstances and limited resources, Shree Jaya Bhadrakali Basic School has successfully evolved into a well-managed and adequately equipped educational institution. Through the continuous support of the local community, education advocates, teachers, and various organizations, the school has established itself as a respected center of learning and community development.
