Brief History

Shree Naulin Secondary School

With the noble objective of ensuring that future generations are not deprived of the light of education, Shree Naulin Secondary School was established by the renowned social worker and education advocate Mr. Bir Bahadur Shrestha, a resident of Tusal, Chunikhel, in Budhanilkantha Municipality–13 (then Mahankal Village Panchayat). At that time, the area lacked educated individuals and educational opportunities. To address this need, an educated person was brought from Chitwan District, and classes were initially conducted by gathering children in Mr. Shrestha’s own home.

The early years of the school were extremely challenging. Teaching and learning activities were conducted in private homes, while operational expenses were managed through contributions collected from social workers, education enthusiasts, and donors. To institutionalize the educational activities that had been operating informally, the school’s founding chairman Mr. Bir Bahadur Shrestha, social worker Mr. Jujuman Shrestha, and local resident Mr. Jujubhai Shrestha made relentless efforts. As a result, on Poush 17, 2017 B.S., the Ministry of Education officially recognized the institution as Shree Naulin Primary School.

The name “Naulin” carries both historical and religious significance. The Naulin Bhadrakali Temple, located in Chunikhel Gamcha, has long been a center of faith and devotion for local residents. It is believed that the school was named after this revered goddess, who is worshipped as the community’s guardian deity and honored through traditional religious festivals and celebrations.

Even after receiving official recognition, the school continued to operate in local residents’ homes due to the absence of its own building. Five years after its establishment, in 2023 B.S., local philanthropist Mr. Jujuman Shrestha donated land and facilitated the construction of a three-room temporary building through community labor contributions. This milestone significantly strengthened the school’s institutional foundation.

As student enrollment increased, the need for physical expansion became more pressing. In 2037 B.S. and 2043 B.S., additional two-room temporary buildings were constructed on land donated by Mr. Sukunarayan Shrestha. These developments enabled the school to systematically provide primary-level education.

On Jestha 3, 2048 B.S., a devastating windstorm caused severe damage to the school’s temporary structures. In response, a six-room permanent building was constructed with support from Plan International Nepal. Later, in 2055 B.S., an additional floor was added with assistance from the Japanese organization JAFS. A third floor was subsequently added in 2069 B.S. to accommodate the growing needs of the school.

However, the devastating earthquake of 2072 B.S. caused serious damage to the school buildings, making it impossible to continue classes in the old structure. Due to space limitations, permission was obtained from Budhanilkantha Municipality for the construction of new facilities. Through the District Project Implementation Unit (Education), three permanent buildings with a total of sixteen classrooms were constructed. At present, primary-level classes are conducted in the older building, while lower secondary and secondary-level classes operate from the newly constructed facilities.

Since its establishment, the school has played a significant role in promoting educational awareness and providing quality education within the community. The institution places special emphasis on discipline, moral values, and social responsibility. Various extracurricular activities are organized to provide students with practical life skills alongside academic knowledge.

The school’s continued success has been made possible through the unwavering support and dedication of the local community, parents, teachers, and the School Management Committee. Today, Shree Naulin Secondary School is recognized as one of the leading community schools in the Budhanilkantha area. Looking ahead, the school remains committed to delivering quality education and contributing meaningfully to the development of society and the nation.
