Brief History

History of Shree Ram Basic School

Shree Ram Basic School has a long history marked by continuous struggle, growth, and development. The school is located near the Shivapuri Watershed Area in the former Bishnu Budhanilkantha VDC Ward No. 5 (currently Ward No. 4), Kathmandu. Before the establishment of the school, local children faced significant difficulties in accessing education due to the lack of nearby educational institutions.

The school was established in 2048 B.S. (1991 A.D.) after local social worker Late Gun Bahadur Khadka generously provided land for its construction. With the support and cooperation of local residents, a temporary structure was built, and teaching and learning activities began. In its early years, the school had only three classrooms. Later, with the assistance of parents and community members, another temporary building was constructed using bamboo and timber from pine and alder trees. Subsequently, with support from the General Welfare Organization, the building was upgraded with a corrugated metal roof.

As the school faced challenges such as inadequate classroom space and damaged doors and windows, teachers and local social workers worked together to improve the infrastructure. In 2057 B.S., a reconstruction committee was formed under the leadership of Bal Krishna Regmi. The committee renovated the school building and constructed additional classrooms. Teachers, social workers, the Village Development Committee, and local residents all made significant contributions to this effort.

In 2063 B.S., the old southern temporary structure was replaced with a four-room permanent building. The following year, an additional floor was added to the building. In 2069 B.S., doors and windows were installed. During 2070/71 B.S., the school purchased whiteboards, a music system, a printer, and a photocopy machine. Likewise, in 2071/72 B.S., laptops, a projector, and batteries were acquired. These improvements played an important role in modernizing the school’s educational environment and learning activities.

The school building has also been made earthquake-resistant. Following the devastating earthquake of 2072 B.S., damaged structures were repaired with the support of grants and financial assistance, making the school safer and more resilient.

At present, the school is equipped with modern facilities, including a new building, library, assembly hall, drinking water facilities, toilets, and a playground. The contributions of the Mayor, Ward Chairperson, teachers, parents, and local social workers have been instrumental in the school’s development.

Through the collective efforts of the local community, dedicated teachers, and the support of various organizations, Shree Ram Basic School has successfully developed into a respected and well-established educational institution.
